Whitney Houston Ringtones
About Whitney HoustonHouston has recently released her latest album I Look To You in August 2009. It
is Houston’s seventh album and the album debuted on the Billboard 200 straight
at the top spot, making it Houston’s second studio album to reach number one;
the first being her 1987 album Whitney, and the fourth number one album overall.
Houston recently also made her first interview appearance on TV in the last
seven years on The Oprah Winfrey Show. I Look To You and Million Dollar Bill are
the two singles from the album and Houston is set to perform Million Dollar Bill
on the X Factor in the UK on 18th October 2009. The I Look To You Tour is slated
to start in 2010; beginning with the UK.
The album has received generally good reviews, however, many critics have noted
that there is a decline in Houston’s past vocal prowess. Some have merely stated
that Houston’s voice has developed a new quality, making it deeper and more
husky. Fans will agree that with the voice she had before, even a decline in her
‘vocal prowess’ means she still has a voice better than most other mortals! The
album has sold more than 701,000 copies in the US. Apart from topping the
Billboard 200, the album also opened at number 1 on the US R&B/Hip Hop Albums
Charts. I Look To You was a worldwide success, opening at number one across
Europe, specifically in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Italy, Switzerland as
well as in Canada.
This mega successful music artist had extremely humble beginnings, being born in
a rough neighbourhood in New Jersey. Her mother, Cissy Houston was a gospel
singer and by the time Whitney was eleven, she was performing as a solo singer
in the junior gospel. Even after her parents’ divorce, Whitney continued to live
with her mother who taught her singing. Whitney sang on her first recording at
the age of fifteen in 1978, when she sang backing vocals on Chaka Khan’s single
I’m Every Woman, the track that she would later turn around and use in her movie
The Bodyguard. Houston also worked as a fashion model during these years.
Houston slowly became known and started getting recording offers from various
labels. Her eponymous debut album was released in 1985, receiving critical
acclaim. From there onwards Houston went from strength to strength, winning a
number of awards and releasing several successful albums. Today, Whitney Houston
is one of the best selling music personalities of the world, having sold over
150 million albums and over 50 million singles the world over!
