About Van Halden
Born to a father who worked with the US Air Force, Van Helden travelled around the world as a child with his parents, spending time in Turkey, Netherlands, Latvia and Italy. He started DJing at the age of 15. Around 1988, Helden started DJing in Boston clubs, where he was attending college. A few years later, however, Helden quit his day job doing legal-reviews and started working full time as a re-mixer. He started working at a top Boston Nightclub known as the Loft.

Before the release of his version of Professional Window, which made him a worldwide success, Helden had released a few singles like Start on My Mind and Move it to the Left, which became moderate club hits. Helden did a non commissioned remix of the 1996 Tori Amos song Professional Window. The remix became a worldwide dance hit, and a number 1 single in the UK. The remix established Helden as one of the top re-mixers/house musicians in the world. Helden later worked on remixes of material by The Rolling Stones, Puff Daddy, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and Daft Punk to name a few.

Helden had released his album Old School Junkies: The Album in 1996 which produced the top ten dance hit Cha Cha. Helden’s position as one of the most respected and successful re-mixers in the world had been firmly established. He released several albums in the following years. Most of them spawning worldwide dance hits.

Between 2000 and 2008, Helden released numerous albums like Killing Puritans, Nympho, Ghettoblaster, You Don’t Know Me, and New York: A Mix Odyssey. The albums spawned several enormously successful dance hits. Helden remained on the UK charts more or less throughout this period.

In 2008, Helden particularly gained immense commercial and critical success through the remix of the number 1 track Inspire, by Japanese singer Ayumi Hamasaki.

In 2009, Helden once again became a visitor to the top spot on UK Singles Charts with Bonkers. Bonkers is a collaboration between UK Grime Artist Dizzee Rascal and Helden. It’s part of Dizzee Rascal’s fourth studio album Tongue N’ Cheek and the track was released on Rascal’s own label Dirtee Stank Recordings in May 2009 in the UK. Bonkers became a number one hit on UK singles Chart as well as UK Dance Chart.

Helden’s work has been featured on a number of dance compilations and greatest hits albums. He is accepted as one of the biggest names in the house music and remix scene.
