About The Veronicas
Of the two, Jessica is
the older sister by
roughly a minute. They
are the twin daughters
of Italian-Australian
parents. Their first
time in the spotlight
was spent as actresses
on cybergirl and the
suite life of Zack and
Cody playing twin
sisters.
Their name is derived
from a line in the film
Heathers in which a
character answers – no
I'm a veronica. This
cool and nonchalant
attitude impressed
Jessica in particular
and the name was
decided.
The pair only began
writing songs at the
time of their eighteenth
birthdays. Jessica
received a guitar as a
present and together
they began song-writing.
Soon after they formed a
group called Teal with
friends and although
they were able to
release an experimental
new song called baby
it's over, they only
managed to get it played
on local radio stations.
The real breakthrough
came when they were
introduced to Hayden
Bell who altered their
style and modelled it
into a pop-rock genre
which they still use
today. This was their
big chance and they
quickly found themselves
a production deal. As
well as this, Hayden
Bell also enriched their
collection of lyrics by
putting them in touch
with prolific writers
having worked with
Madonna, Cyndi Lauper,
Britney Spears, Pink
etc. At this point they
signed a multi million
dollar recording deal
with Warner Bros.
Recordings.
Their first chart
success came with their
song All About US which
was a joint project with
T.A.T.U, a Russian girl
group. There were also
singles release with
Casey Donovan and Kate
DeAraugo.
Their Début album was
entitled The Secret Life
Of … and was release in
October 2005. It's
highest chart position
was 2nd, has gone
platinum four times over
and spent over a year in
the top 40. This success
encouraged the release
of five singles from the
album. They were
subsequently nominated
for three awards at the
ARIA awards and won best
pop release. The album
was released in the US
but only managed #133 on
the Billboard 200.
Their second album hook
me up has also gone
platinum and was the
28th highest selling
album of 2007 in the
ARIA charts. The title
single was released as a
single and made it to
number one. This was the
Veronicas’ first time at
the top of the charts.
There was more success
to come with Untouched
which reached 8th in the
UK charts but only 16th
in the US Billboard.
They have plans to
release a two disk
compilation – The
Veronicas Complete and
have announced a tour of
Australia and New
Zealand called Revenge
is Sweeter. There are
also plans for a tour in
Asia and Europe and hook
me up is set for
re-release in Europe.
They are also likely to
be supporting Kelly
Clarkson during her
tour.
Besides their music
career, they are
actively involved in gay
rights and Steven
Irwin's charity Wildlife
Warriors Worldwide.
