About Taylor Swift
Some artists have
something special about
them that allows their
music to crossover from
their original genre
into other popular
audiences, reaching
millions of people no
matter what section of
the music aisles their
albums tend to get
classified under. Taylor
Swift is one of the most
recent phenomena to do
just that. Originally
marketed as a young up
and coming country music
singer, she has recently
received an esteemed
music video award from
MTV and her songs are
played on virtually ever
radio station from
country to pop.
While much of her fan
base may have started
out as young girls who
related to her more
innocent, yet shockingly
deep lyrics, she has
definitely won over
followers from every age
group, race, and
nationality.
Taylor’s debut album was
simply titled Taylor
Swift and was released
on 24th October 2006 by
Big Machine Records. The
UK debut was on August
3, 2009 and she has
received just as much
acclaim and success here
as she did in her native
United States.
Taylor was a young
school girl who had
recently moved to
Tennessee to pursue a
music career that her
supportive parents knew
she would one day have,
when she was approached
by Scott Borchetta after
one of her many local
performances. He was
about to open a brand
new music label and
wanted to sign her as
his very first project.
Without a flinch to the
possible mishap going
with a start-up could
end up being, Taylor
agreed.
This first record was
the product of that
smart decision and it
currently ranks as the
longest reigning album
by a female country
artist to rank on the
U.S. Billboard 200.
Songs from this first
album are just as widely
played on the radio
today as are her more
recent contributions.
The second album by
Taylor Swift was a
Christmas album released
on 14th October 2007. It
was followed by a deluxe
CD/DVD edition of her
original album about a
month later. She went on
from there to release
three more albums along
with various remixes,
karaoke versions, and
bonus tracks for each.
In 2007, Taylor was
awarded at the CMT Music
Awards for Breakthrough
Video of the Year and
received the Horizon
Award from the CMA. In
2008, she won another
CMT Music Award for
Female Video of the
World and was recognised
by the Academy of
Country Music as the Top
New Female Vocalist. In
2009, she once again
walked away with two CMT
Music Awards for Video
of the Year and Female
Video of the Year.
She is just as well
known for her calm,
mature presence and the
way she carries herself
with a class as she is
her music. When popular
artist Kanye interrupted
her acceptance speech
for her 2009 MTV Video
Music Award while
cameras rolled live on
televisions everywhere,
she was praised for her
poise and grace in a
moment when many her age
would lose control.
