About Peter Andre
Born in London in 1973,
Andre’s family moved to
Queensland Australia
when Andre was just
about ten years old. He
was starting to get into
dance and soul music but
didn’t find any of that
in Australia, so Andre
made it his mission to
introduce it to his
mates! Andre was
discovered in 1990 while
performing on an
Australian National
Talent Show, New Faces.
It is said that young
Andre had called the
producers of the show
and sung to them over
the phone, asking to be
selected. His
persistence obviously
paid off, and Peter was
offered a contract with
Melodian Records, whose
owner Molly Meldrum was
one of the judges.
His career finally began
when Gimme Little Sign,
Andre’s debut single was
released in 1992. Gimme
Little Sign was a
success in Australia,
peaking at #3 on
Australian Charts. The
single won an ARIA award
in 1993 for highest
selling single. The year
also saw the release of
his debut album titled
Peter Andre. The album
did well in Australia,
and Andre was finally on
his way to the top. He
found success in the UK
with the single Only
One. Mysterious Girl,
his hugely popular
single, turned out to be
a worldwide hit, and
reached #2 on UK Charts.
Natural, Andre’s second
album released in 1996,
was also a success.
Natural spawned two #1
singles in the UK, Flava,
and I Feel You.
Andre’s successful
stint, however, was
about to come to a halt,
only temporarily off
course. After trying to
change his image from a
pop artist to an R&B
act, Andre’s popularity
seemed to fade, with his
next album Time; making
little progress on the
charts. The artist
eventually retreated to
Cyprus, but only to
return with a bang a few
years later.
In 2004, Andre appeared
on the British TV Show,
I’m a Celebrity... Get
Me Out of Here! The star
made headlines when he
met and fell in love
with glamour model and
celebrity Katie Price,
also known as Jordan, on
the show. The couple got
married soon after.
Mysterious Girl was
re-released at this
time, and it was good
timing too, as the
single made it to #1 on
the UK Single’s Chart.
Insania, another single,
peaked at #3 on UK
charts, in June 2004.
The following album to
be released, The Long
Road Back didn’t prove
to be a great success,
only making it to #44 in
the UK. However, The
Right Way with a video
featuring Katie Price,
did better, making it to
#14.
The couple released the
single A Whole New World
followed by a duet album
of the same name. The
album made it to the Top
20 on the Top 40 UK
album Chart. All
proceeds from the album
were donated to the
couple’s chosen
charities. In May 2009,
Andre’s personal life
made the headlines once
again when the couple
separated after three
and half years of
marriage. Although the
divorce was a quick
affair, the separation
was high profile and got
much press and tabloid
attention.
Andre’s latest album
entitled Revelations is
slated to be released on
the 14th of
September2009. The album
has spawned two lead
singles Behind Closed
Doors and Unconditional.
