About Paolo Nutini
Nutini is a singer
songwriter from Paisley,
Scotland. His father is
of Italian descent but
his family has been
living in Scotland for
four generations. It was
Nutini’s grandfather who
encouraged him to sing,
and soon enough, his
music teacher from
school recognised young
Paolo’s talent.
Before becoming a
successful musical
artist, he has worked as
a Roadie, a studio hand
in Glasgow’s Park Lane
studio, and also sold
T-Shirts for Speedway.
The story of how Nutini
got his big break is
rather dramatic. It was
during David Sneddon’s
return concert in
Paisley; Sneddon got
delayed by a bit and
Nutini who was there was
given the chance to
perform for a few
minutes before Sneddon
showed up. The crowd
loved Nutini and Brendon
Moon who was in the
audience, offered to
become Nutini’s manager.
From then on, radio and
live shows went on
happening and
increasing. Nutini moved
to London and began
performing regularly at
The Bedford, a pub in
Balham. During this
time, Nutini has
performed at The Hard
Rock Café, Radio London,
and has also done
supporting acts for Amy
Winehouse and KT
Tunstall.
2006 was packed for
Nutini, with
performances at all the
right places, including
Later...With Jools
Holland, The Montreaux
Jazz Festival, Carnegie
Hall in New York,
Oxygen, and T4 in the
Park. Nutini also
supported the Rolling
Stones in Vienna.
He has also performed on
The Tonight Show with
Jay Leno, playing his
hit single Last Request.
Last Request peaked at
number 5 on the UK
Singles Charts. Several
of Nutini’s songs have
been played on popular
TV shows like Scrubs,
One Tree Hill, Grey’s
Anatomy and CSI: Miami.
Nutini is scheduled to
lend his music to the
film adaptation of
Irvine Welsh’s novel
Ecstasy: Three Tales of
Chemical Romance.
Nutini’s first album
These Streets was
released in July 2006.
It was an instant
success and entered the
UK Album Charts at
number 3. Sunny Side Up
released in June 2009
and debuted at number 1
on the UK Albums Charts.
Although the album
received mixed critical
reviews, it’s been a big
commercial success.
Candy, the first single
for Sunny Side Up peaked
at number 19 on the UK
Charts. Coming Up Easy
was not quite as
successful in the UK,
but Pencil Full of Lead
is currently on the Top
40 singles Chart in the
UK.
