About Keri Hilson
Keri has been writing
for artists and rappers
throughout the 2000s. It
was, however, in 2007
that Hilson did a guest
performance on
Timbaland’s The Way I
Are and Scream and began
her solo career as a
recording artist. In A
Perfect World, her debut
album was out in early
2009, featuring singles
like Energy, Turn Me On
and Knock You Down,
which were a big success
in the UK.
Born in Georgia,
America, Keri took piano
and singing lessons as a
child. Hilson started
out in the early 2000s,
writing songs and
providing backing vocals
for several tracks. In
2004 she was featured on
Xzibit’s single, Hey Now
(Mean Muggin). After
signing with Timbaland’s
Mosley Music Group
label, Hilson was part
of Timbaland’s solo
album Shock Value,
featured on singles like
The Way I Are and
Scream. The Way I Are
was a success in the US
and received the Teen
Choice Award for Choice
Rap Single. Hilson also
wrote and provided
backing vocals on
Britney Spear’s album
Blackout.
During this time, Hilson
was featured in several
music videos like Ne-Yo’s
Miss Independent, and
Usher’s Love In This
Club, where she played
the lead role.
Finally, her talent
materialised in the
release of Keri’s first
independent album, In A
Perfect World which was
released in March 2009.
In A Perfect World had
been in production for
over three years but had
been pushed back, due to
budget constraint in the
label. The album
produced singles like
Energy, Knock you Down,
Turn Me On, and Return
The Favour. Energy
didn’t prove to be a
success in the US or UK
but went to number 2 on
the New Zealand charts.
Return The Favour
received a lukewarm
response in the US, but
was a big success in the
UK, making it to the top
20 on UK Singles Charts.
Turnin’ Me On gave Keri
her first US solo
success, making it to
number 15 on the
Billboard Hot Hundred.
Knock You Down, however,
was her biggest success
to date. The single went
to number 3 on US Charts
and to the top spot on
R&B/Hip Hop Hot Hundred.
The track peaked at
number 5 on UK singles
Charts and number 2 on
UK R&B Singles Charts.
In 2009, touring for the
third time this year,
Hilson is to be the
opening act for the
international leg of Ne-Yo’s
The Year Of the
Gentleman Tour.
Keri Hilson’s song
writing talent and
gorgeous good looks
couldn’t remain hidden
for long, and solo
success would find her
sooner or later, which
it certainly has now!
