About Kelly Rowland
Kelly Rowland is an
American
singer/songwriter, born
Kelendria Rowland on the
11th February 1981 in
Atlanta, Georgia. Kelly
initially enjoyed major
international success
alongside Beyonce
Knowles and an ever
changing line up in the
girl group Destiny’s
Child.
Destiny’s Child enjoyed
their first
international hit with
the single No, No, No in
1998, followed by the
release of the
multi-platinum selling
second album The
Writing’s on the Wall
the following year. From
this album the group
enjoyed a string of
internationally
successful singles
including Jumpin’ Jumpin’
and the US #1s Bills,
Bills, Bills and Say
Your Name, which went on
to win several awards at
the 2001 Grammys.
The group followed up
the success of The
Writing’s on the Wall
with their third album
Survivor, which was
released in May 2001.
The album went on to
sell over 10 million
copies worldwide,
reaching #1 in several
countries including the
UK and USA. From the
album the group released
two UK #1 singles,
Independent Women Part
I, which was also
featured on the
Charlie’s Angels film
soundtrack, and the
title track, Survivor.
Two further hit singles
were released -
Bootylicious, another US
#1, and Emotion.
During a temporary break
from the group, Kelly
recorded the single
Dilemma with rapper
Nelly in 2002. The
single became a
worldwide hit, reaching
#1 in several countries
including the USA and UK
and became one of the
biggest selling singles
of that year.
To capitalise on the
success of the single,
the release of Kelly’s
first solo album, Simply
Deep, was brought
forward and released in
early 2003. The album
was another success,
reaching #1 in several
countries including the
UK. The next single
release, Stole, was
another international
success and reached #2
in the UK. This single
was then followed by
another international
top ten hit, Can’t
Nobody and slightly less
successful Train on a
Track, which was
featured on the
soundtrack for the film
Maid in Manhattan.
Following her solo
success, Kelly then
returned to Destiny’s
Child in late 2004 to
release the album
Destiny Fulfilled, and
the supporting Destiny
Fulfilled… And Lovin’ It
tour. The album became
another success for the
group and spawned a
string of hit singles
including Loose My
Breath, Soldier and
Girl. At the end of the
tour the group disbanded
and released a greatest
hits collection
appropriately titled
#1s.
Kelly went on to release
her second solo album
Ms. Kelly in June 2007.
Although the album
proved to be not as
commercially successful
as its predecessor,
Kelly still enjoyed
success, particularly in
the UK and the rest of
Europe, with the singles
Work and Ghetto,
featuring Snoop Dog.
In 2009, Kelly left her
record label, Columbia
Records, and
collaborated as a guest
vocalist on the David
Guetta single When Love
Takes Over. The single
went on to become a huge
international success,
reaching #1 in several
countries.
