About Jeremiah
Jeremih, full name Jeremih Felton was born and raised in the infamous southside of Chicago. He was born into a musical family and was gifted his first drum set by his parents when Felton was just three. He also taught himself how to play the piano and saxophone. It was from such an early age that both Felton and his parents had recognised his passion for music.

Felton was part of the marching band at Morgan Park High School where he studied. It was at this time that he taught himself to play several instruments including saxophone, bass drum, cymbals. Jeremih graduated at the age of 16, a year earlier than usual due to academic excellence. He then enrolled at the University of Illinois to study Engineering. But engineering was not Jeremih’s true calling, and it was during these days that Jeremih’s future career began taking roots. After performing at a Stevie Wonder tribute concert at the University and getting a positive reaction, Felton realised the power of music over his life.

Felton had started attending Columbia College in Chicago to study a degree in Music Business when he collaborated with then fellow student and producer Mike Schultz on a song called My Ride. My Ride first played on Power92 a local radio station in Chicago.

It was in February 2009 that Felton flew to New York and met L.A.Reid, the president of Island Def Jam Records. That very same day, Jeremih was signed under the Def Jam Recordings label. It was under this label that Jeremih released his debut single Birthday Sex in January 2009. The track was a huge success and made it to #4 on the Bill Hot 100. Jeremih, Felton’s eponymous debut album made it to # 6 on the Billboard 200. Within first week for its release the album had sold over 59000 copies. Jeremih’s second single Imma Star (Everywhere we are) released in June 2009.
Felton is known for his soulful yet sly vocals. Andy Kellman of Allmusic has compared Felton’s vocals Raphael Saadiq and Slim of 112. Jeremih has also received comparisons to The-Dream, Kelly and Wonder. He received a MOBO Award (Music of Black Origins) nomination for Best R&B/Soul Act in 2009.

Felton names Michael Jackson, R. Kelly and Stevie Wonder as his most important influences, calling these musicians ‘true artists’ and calling their work ‘timeless’. About himself this multitalented young artiste says, “I have no boundaries. I’m a writer, singer, I’m a producer and I can play instruments. It excites me to see what there is to come.” As it does his fans, no doubt.
