About Esmee Denters
Denters’ talent was
noticed and appreciated
by the right people at
the right time, making
her a big success at the
early age of 20. Since
around 2006, Denters was
posting covers of
popular songs by Beyonce,
Justin Timberlake,
Natasha Bedingfield etc.
from her suburban home
in Oosterbeek in the
Netherlands. Denters was
just a girl with a voice
and a webcam, who wanted
to know what people out
there thought of her
songs. The people out
there seemed to love her
and this was the first
step for Esmee on her
way to the top. She was
already somewhat of a
known and loved entity
among the YouTube
community, when Dutch
artist manager, Jonathan
Berhane noticed her
talent and introduced
her to Billy Mann,
Grammy nominated
songwriter and manager.
Esmee’s manager arranged
her to meet with Justin
Timberlake at one of his
concerts. Timberlake
didn’t miss her talent
either, and Denters
signed a deal under
Tennman Records,
Timberlake’s own newly
launched label, in
association with
Interscope. Denters was
the first artist to be
signed under the new
label. Esmee was to open
several of Timberlake’s
concerts in Europe on
the FutureSex/LoveShow
Tour in 2007, and is
said to be the first
artist ever to go
straight from a personal
YouTube posting to
performing commercially
on a stage! Esmee, who
had only ever sung for
her webcam in her
bedroom, was now to sing
live for over 70,000
people at the Amsterdam
Arena in Holland. Sounds
like an overwhelming
task, but the fact that
Esmee is well on her way
to stardom today,
probably makes it
obvious that she handled
it beautifully.
In 2007 Timberlake and
Denters began writing
songs together. With
Timberlake’s backing,
they got top notch
producers and
songwriters like Polow
Da Don (Usher), Stargate
(Rihanna, Ne-Yo), and
Toby Gad (Fergie,
Beyonce) to collaborate
on the album. Outta Here
was released in 2009,
and was an instant hit.
Outta Here the single
made it to the top ten
on UK singles charts and
is currently on. The
album as such is a
soulful, Pop R&B
collection with an edge.
Denters has won the TMF
Best Female Artist and
the TMF Superchart award
in the Netherlands and
was nominated for the
Best Dutch and Belgian
Artist 2009 at the MTV
Europe Music Awards.
From a young girl with a
passion for singing
posting her own songs on
YouTube, to being a top
charted artist in the UK
and all over the world,
Denters seems to have
come a long, long way in
a very short time. And
the way things are going
for Esmee Denters, it
looks like she’s not
going to be outta here
for a long time to come!
