About Christina Aguilera
Born in December 1980 in
Staten Islands, Aguilera
grew up for the most
part in Rochester, with
her mother, sister and
grandmother. She aspired
to be a singer since an
early age and was known
as ‘the little girl with
the big voice’. She
entered several local
talent shows and
competitions, winning
almost all of them!
Aguilera’s first serious
foray into the world of
entertainment came in
1993, with Disney
Channel’s The New Mickey
Mouse Club. The show
went on air for one year
and then got cancelled.
Aguilera’s first
recorded song was All I
Wanna Do, in 1994. The
track was a duet with
Japanese singer Keizo
Nakanishi and turned out
to be very successful.
Another big break later
in 1998 came with the
recording of Reflection
for Disney’s Mulan. This
earned the young singer
a contract with RCA
Records. The song was
also successful, earning
a Golden Globe
Nomination for Best
Original Song. Her
eponymous debut album
was released in 1999.
The album was a
phenomenal success,
selling 17 million
copies all over the
world. All the singles
spawned by this album
were also a success, and
I Turn To You peaked at
number 3 on US Billboard
Hot 100.
After a tidal wave of
success following her
first album, Aguilera’s
second English album
Stripped was released in
2002. Her new raunchy
image proved only to be
a minor infraction in
her success. The single
Dirrty peaked at number
1 on UK Singles Charts.
Beautiful the second
single from the album
earned Aguilera immense
critical praise as well
as a Grammy! Back To
Basics, the third studio
album recorded in
English, reached number
1 on UK charts as well
as US charts and was an
instant success
worldwide.
Aguilera has
collaborated with
several big artists on
tours as well as on her
songs. A Soprano with a
soulful voice, she has
often been compared to
greats like Whitney
Houston, Mariah Carey,
Barbra Streisand and
Aretha Franklin among
others.
2009 will see Christina
shooting for her first
film, a Hollywood
musical entitled
Burlesque. The film is
written and directed by
Steve Antin and is
currently in production.
It has been written
specifically keeping
Aguilera in mind. The
film is also slated to
feature Cher. It is
expected to be released
in late 2010 and is
eagerly awaited by
Aguilera fans all over
the world!
