About Chris Brown
Chris has humble
beginnings and is the
son of a day care worker
and a prison officer. He
first experienced music
when he listened to his
parents' soul records
but soon developed an
interest in Hip-Hop. He
taught himself to sing
and dance when he was
still very young and
performed in his local
church choir. He has
always said that Michael
Jackson was his
inspiration.
He was first discovered
by the music industry at
a gas station by a
member of the Island Def
Jam music group who
offered to sign him on
the spot in 2004. He
eventually signed for
Jive who had had
previous record success
with Britney Spears.
Brown then worked on his
début album. There were
14 tracks selected out
of the 50 or so that he
had prepared and
recorded. He had also
co-written five of the
tracks that were
selected. The
inspiration for his
songs came from everyday
life for an average 16
year old and the album
took eight weeks to
produce. This album was
named after his stage
name and entered the
Billboard charts at
number two. It has since
been certified platinum
twice over and sold more
than three million
copies.
The leading single in
the album, Run It, was
released and went
straight to the top of
the Billboard charts.
After his chart success,
he toured with
Beyoncé and then
performed his own tour
entitled Up Close and
Personal.
Chris had a few TV roles
to further his acting
career but his main
focus is music. After
his tour with
Ne-Yo, he began work
on his second studio
album. The album was
called Exclusive and,
released in 2007, and
provided him with yet
more chart success. It
debuted at number four
and sold more than 1.9
million copies. One of
the singles released
from his second album,
Wall to Wall, became his
least successful entry
ever, barely entering
the top 100. He was back
on form, however, with
Kiss Kiss which he
released with T-Pain.
The pair managed to top
the charts, for Chris,
this was his second time
at the peak of the
Billboard charts.
He gave his second album
a boost by releasing The
Forever Edition which of
course contained the
song Forever, which
stretched to number two
in the Billboard 100
chart. His third album,
Graffiti, is to be based
more on the styles of
Michael Jackson and
Prince. He was forced to
withdraw from the 2009
Grammy awards after he
handed himself to the
police for making
criminal threats and
domestic violence. He
was later charged with
assault on his
girlfriend of the time
and fellow singer,
Rihanna. Despite this,
Chris Brown does not
expect his career to end
in the near future.
