About Beyonce
Beyonce Giselle Knowles
was born on the 4th
September 1981 in
Houston, Texas. In
pursuit of her interests
in singing and dancing;
a young Beyonce enrolled
in various performing
arts schools, before
eventually rising to
fame in the late 90’s as
lead singer of the
highly successful girl
group Destiny’s Child.
Destiny’s Child went on
to sell more than 50
million records
worldwide, to include
the highly successful
albums The Writing’s On
The Wall and Survivor.
The latter included UK
#1 single success with
Independent Women Part I
and the title track,
along with the US #1
Bootylicious.
In 2002 Beyonce starred
in the Austin Power’s
film Goldmember as Foxxy
Cleopatra alongside Mike
Myers, for which she
recorded the film’s
soundtrack Work It Out.
Later that year Beyonce
also recorded the UK #2
single 03 Bonnie & Clyde
with her then boyfriend
Jay Z
During a brief break
from Destiny’s Child in
2003 Beyonce released
her first solo album
Dangerously in Love. The
album was a major
success, becoming one of
the top sellers of the
year and included the #1
single Crazy In Love and
Baby Boy.
Beyonce returned to
record with Destiny’s
Child in 2004, releasing
the album Destiny
Fulfilled and embarking
on the world tour of the
same name the following
year.
The band ultimately
disbanded at the end of
the tour, allowing
Beyonce to record her
second successful solo
album B’Day in 2006. The
album was released to
co-inside with her 25th
birthday and included
the UK #1 single Déjà Vu
and worldwide hits
Irreplaceable and
Listen. In 2007 Beyonce
also embarked on her
lengthy Beyonce
Experience World Tour.
Beyonce went on to
release her third solo
album I Am… Sasha Fierce
in November 2008,
allegedly named after
the persona she adopts
when on stage. The first
single from the album,
If I Was a Boy, became
Beyonce’s third #1 in
the UK, and the second
single Single Ladies
(Put A Ring On It)
reached #1 in the USA.
The third single, Halo,
was a further top ten
hit both sides of the
Atlantic.
Beyonce started her I
Am… Tour in Spring 2009,
visiting countries on
every continent.
